Auseco runs syllabus-aligned field trip excursions for NSW Primary and Secondary students based in Greater Sydney and surrounding areas.
Our Field Guides come from a diverse range of backgrounds, within the environmental industry, academia, and education.
Our team of highly-qualified Field Guides have the skills and knowledge to make every field trip a rich and valuable learning experience for all our students.
Auseco educators are hand-picked for their superior knowledge of our topics and their skills in communication to students of all ages. All have significant experience teaching in a variety of contexts within education and the environmental industry.
In addition to our rigorous in-house training, all of our staff have current first aid qualifications and Working with Children Checks.

Auseco’s Director since 2022, Matt brings a wealth of experience in environmental education and science communication. His unflappable manner and innate ability to break down difficult concepts make him a natural educator.

With 12 years in the education sector, Jess has been an integral part of Auseco for over a decade. They are passionate about nurturing young people’s understanding and appreciation of nature, as well as supporting neurodiverse students.

Rocks are Julie’s specialty after 25 years in oil and gas exploration, but her talents lie in education and communication with students of all ages. Her underlying knowledge of biological and geographical systems and processes will hone any class’s understanding and appreciation for fieldwork.

Don and Connie
Our team wouldn’t be the same without the contribution of Don and Connie, the mainstays of Auseco since the 1990s. Don is a renowned educator and talented wildlife and portrait photographer, and Connie’s flair for administration has kept our staff and school bookings organised with barely a hiccup for more than a decade. Both have worked hard to support Auseco’s change in ownership and thoroughly deserve their new opportunities for travel and exploration. We wish them the very best.

Do you have what it takes to become an Auseco Field Guide?
Our Field Guides form a renowned team of specialists in environmental education. Occasionally we seek new recruits to enter our rigorous program of training to hone their delivery skills and become experts in our programs, equipment, sites and ecosystems.
We are looking for stand-out educators who meet the following criteria:
- Tertiary qualifications in biological sciences, geography, education or relevant fields
- Confident and engaging delivery of educational experiences to school-aged children
- Experience in leading groups in an outdoor environment
- Passion for communicating and inspiring the younger generation about contemporary issues relating to the environment and sustainability
- Ability to travel by car to field sites across Sydney
- First Aid Certificate and NSW Working with Children Check
