Auseco’s cross-curricular field trips for primary students offer a unique opportunity for experiential learning, under the care of our engaging and experienced Field Guides.
Exploring the natural world
Put on your hat and lace up your boots for an adventure! It’s time to explore some wild places and meet the plants and animals that live there. Everyone is sure to be surprised and amazed at the discoveries we make together.

Science & Technology: Living World
ST3-1WS-S A student plans and conducts scientific investigations to answer testable questions, and collects and summarises data to communicate conclusions

Exploring the bush
Venture up hills and down valleys with your Field Guide, learning about our bushland environment as we go. We’ll make a map of adjectives to describe the ecological niches we visit, and do our best to catch some water creatures from the creek and get to know them. We’ll discover how aboriginal people used the resources in this area, then we’ll conduct our own survey to find out how people care for the bushland today.

Exploring the rainforest
The beautiful rainforest at Mt Keira is one of the Illawarra’s best-kept secrets. Our lucky students will spend their day immersed in the cool shade of giant trees as we get to know this ancient landscape and its inhabitants. We’ll seek and identify creatures on the forest floor, find all kinds of plants with all kinds of uses, and find out how much the other visitors love the rainforest too.

Exploring the coast
Sydney’s coasts make our city famous! We’ll get to know a scenic stretch of coastline with sandy beaches, craggy rock platforms and tall headlands with wonderful views. Students will explore these landforms and conduct a survey to find out how visitors value the area. In our water shoes, we will venture onto the rock platform to find and describe the marine animals that live there.

Exploring the wetlands
In the south-eastern corner of Botany Bay, we’ll find some intriguing wetland ecosystems. Seagrasses sway in the shallow water, mangroves thrive in the gooey mud, and all kinds of animals take shelter among them. We’ll go exploring to make and record lots of observations about our environment, find and identify lots of local animals and plants, and collect evidence about human attitudes to this special place.
